Kala Sangam presented “ Immortal Moments” with the Masters of Divine Rhythm Guru Kaaraikudi Mani— Mridangam and Ustad Zakir Hussain— Tabla preceded by a mesmerizing vocal recital by Shrimati Kaushiki Chakravarty on 2nd December 2011 at Shanmukhananda Auditorium. The concert was a resounding success. The performance of the Rhythm Masters and their Co-Artists at this Summit  was at its exceptional best. The thunderous applause  and the standing ovation by the thousands of music lovers   was  a testimony to the success of the Concert. The music analysts and music lovers have credited  it as a rare Festival  of exceptionally high Standard and Quality and as one of the best Classical Events in recent times.

 

Ustad Amir Khan Award:

Ustad Amir Khan one of the most path breaking creators in the history of Hindustani Classical Music. He sought and recognized excellence.

Ustad Amir Khan stood shoulder to shoulder with Kala Sangam for furtherance of our objectives. Unfortunately he left us in 1974, when he was in full bloom and still had many miles to go and missions to complete. Kala Sangam  thus decided to commemorate and institutionalize his memory by launching  THE USTAD AMIR KHAN AWARD, which is very significant and sacred to us.

In the Annual Music Festival 2011  Kala  Sangam conferred the Ustad Amir Khan Award to two Luminaries Guru Kaaraikudi Mani for his outstanding contribution to Mridangam and Ustad Zakir Hussain for his achievements in giving Tabla a wide expanse. Both these artists have excelled in their instruments and elevated them beyond being just accompaniments. The Award was presented by Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar.
